Goal Setting Smart

We all love to set goals for ourselves. Unfortunately, we don’t always go about goal setting smart. We give little to no thought to what we really want beyond the obvious. How many women say my goal is to lose twenty pounds in the next two weeks? I will start the diet Monday. Yeah right. Good luck with that. Goal setting smart is a totally new way of setting goals. With goal setting smart, you just might affect some real changes in your life.
Goal setting smart is a new way to look at making real change. The first step is to get yourself in the right mind set. You self-talk yourself until you are so ready to make a change that you can’t wait to get started. Since so many women want to lose weight, losing weight will be our goal. Self-talk in so important in getting ready for a diet. Have you ever watched super athletes? They psyche themselves up for the big game. That is the same as self-talk. Keep telling yourself that you deserve to be slimmer, you deserve to lose weight, and you deserve to be healthy. Make this your mantra until it becomes second nature to you. Use this self-talk every time you are tempted to fall off the food wagon.
Planning is everything. It’s like planning any event; the devil is in the details. The more you plan, the better chance you have for success. Every Sunday spend some time writing out your menu for each meal. Allow for a few treats so you won’t feel so deprived. If you don’t plan, you will grab the first food you can find and that is usually fast food, not healthy meals,
Enlist the aid of your friends. If you have a lot of junk food around the house, have a party. Tell everyone this party is your “clean out the pantry party.” The party may have some strange combinations but it will be fun. Everyone loves a junk food party. Tell everyone that you want to lose some weight and are asking for their help. Asking for their help will guilt them into not encouraging you to eat high calorie food. They will start complimenting you before long on your great weight loss. Some of your friends may even decide to diet with you. Having a buddy is great.
Remember to reward yourself for your great progress. Don’t reward yourself with food; that will be a setback that you might no recover from. Celebrate with a new blouse or skirt. I bet the size will be smaller. Now that is a real reason to party. Another way to reward yourself is with a spa treatment. You might even ask your diet buddies to go with you. Rewards are great ways to keep the momentum going.
A major facet of goal setting smart is giving yourself a break if you fail. If you cannot resist the cake a co-worker brings, pick yourself up, if you can, and start all over. You will probably want to cut down on calories at dinner to make up for the temporary lapse. Don’t beat yourself over the head and feel like a failure. A lot of dieters use this failure to give up and just eat.
Goal setting smart is a great way to change your life. You are in charge; you can affect change. No more excuses; just do it.
